Becoming a doula was a dream-come-true for me, as I have always been fascinated with both the biology and miracle of birth. After giving birth to my two sons, the conviction became even stronger until I was able to begin making it a reality in 2009. I currently share my life with my husband, three children, two daughters in law, three grandbabies, and my dog, Baxter.
I believe that all women deserve to have a positive birth experience. Through hands-on support and sharing accurate information and resources, I can help women and couples achieve just that. As a doula, I will guide you through pregnancy and the birth process, empowering you to become your own best advocate. I am extremely passionate about each and every birth in which I am involved, and it would be my joy and honor to be a part of your birth team. I am a DONA-certified birth doula, CAPPA-certified Childbirth Educator, and a Certified Lactation Consultant.
I am also a Breath of Life Certified Doula, fluent in American Sign Language, and I offer birth photography as part of my doula package.
“You are a wonderful doula and this couple is very lucky to have your wonderful support. We wish all doulas would do what I’ve seen you doing for them.” — RN at Florida Hospital

It was in 2005 when I found my calling to become a birth doula but I was building my own family first so it took me a few years before I made it official. My dream became a reality in May of 2013 when I became a CAPPA-certified doula. I am also a Breath of Life Certified Doula.
It’s my mission to provide you with education and loving support during your pregnancy and labor. I strive to make you feel safe and cared for so you may experience an empowering birth. I feel confident I am able to provide this exceptional service through my extensive training, plus my hands-on experience with a wide range of supporting families wanting natural birth, planned Cesarean birth and everything that comes in between. It would be my honor to provide this same exceptional support to you during this very special time in your life. You have only one chance at making this birth memorable in a positive way. Make it your special birth and welcome your beautiful baby into the world the way you wish.
I am also able to teach you the essential benefits of infant bonding, promoting better sleep habits, boosting the immune system, helping digestive issues and many more positive benefits for mother and baby through infant massage.
Photography is another area that I specialize in which I will capture all your precious moments of your child’s journey at various times from pregnancy, birth and beyond for you to cherish in the years to come.

Becoming a mother transformed me. Never before had I felt so complete and fulfilled. My own journey to motherhood opened a new world which quickly became an all encompassing passion. During my pregnancy I read books, took classes, watched documentaries and surrounded myself with all things related to pregnancy and childbirth. Towards the end of my pregnancy the birth plan that I had spent so much time compiling took an unexpected turn when I had to transfer care from the birth center to a hospital birth due to medical issues. However, that experience brought me to my doula who helped me navigate through the emotional ups and downs of the last trimester of pregnancy. By the time my son was born, I was well equipped to welcome him into the world with the support of an amazing birth team including my husband, doula, my mom and sister. With their support I was able to have the natural birth I desired.
After Peter’s birth I knew that I my journey was not complete. My doula had been so instrumental in my birth, I decided I wanted to help other families have the same experience. In September of 2012 I enrolled in my doula training in 2014, received my doula certification from CAPPA. I am also a Breath of Life Certified Doula. In the fall of 2013, I trained to become a certified childbirth educator with Birth Boot Camp and currently teach classes in the Westchase are of Tampa. I have had the pleasure of helping families to welcome their new babies at hospitals, birth centers and in their own home. Each birth had been unique and beautiful.
I am thankful for the opportunity to educate, empower and encourage women in their births and am thrilled to be a part of the Happy Birth Way Doula Group. Being a part of the lives of others while they experience the miracle of bringing life into the world is an honor. I am looking forward to growing my own family in the future and continuing to help other women have amazing births!
Rachel Crissman, DONA-Trained Birth Doula
I started my journey to becoming a doula after watching so many of my friends go into pregnancy and birth somewhat blind and ill informed. This lead to too many unwanted interventions and left them feeling disappointed on what should have been a joyful and satisfying day. I then began doing research and reading about natural birth practices and realized that I had a true calling to be a doula. I have no stronger desire than to help others get informed, feel supported, and trust themselves so they can have the joyful birth they want.
“Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.” -C.S. Lewis
That is one of my very favorite quotes. As a Breath of Life Certified Doula, and a DONA International-trained labor doula I strive to inspire, encourage, and empower women to view their pregnancy and birth with absolute courage.
